She already has a problem drinking and absconding from her responsibilities, yes.

Which means that needs sorting first. The additional thing, which you're right about, is just more work. Or it might not be if they're all 40, but that doesn't resolve the original issue. Which is she has either a genuine problem with alcohol reliance or just a propensity to take the piss out of Rich.
