Depends what you call cheap.
If its unlocked(ie.bought from Apple)yes £900, otherwise your looking at £700-750. Which after charges is less than £650.

Use it. Enjoy it. They're a decent bit of kit, but you probably will just ignore it cos it's apple.

Steve, you are not cool enough to own one. You wear tight shorts and shave shapes into your head.

Cheap nokia probably has better sound quality than the iphone.
You also get cheap nokia's that have all of that.

Then there's the whole App store, iBooks, hassle free, regular(and free) software updates....and all the stuff within each of those areas, for example- Music Player - Genius Playlists, Album Art, Voice Activation(play/pause) the list is endless. Plus the fact that no other phones UI come close to the smoothness and consistency of the iPhone's(little things like swithing from portrait to landscape wheras other phone's have no transition and it looks poor).

Music player - Just about every phone has a music player
Games (good ones) - Again just about everyphone has a varied selection of games nowadays
5mp camera - Like the Sonys and Nokias did a few years ago. But its still only a phone camera hence a tiny CCD which takes lame pics unless there is perfect light. Oh an no flash either.
itunes - is shit. I prefer my drag and drop/WMP. (shit on windows, i hear its not too bad on Mac)
video calling - Which was introduced in 2003ish, and was the biggest flop ever. Seriously, who actually used video calling. Only over WiFi too, epic fail. Trying to reinvent the wheel.

take it you have never used android on the desire or samsung galaxy s
no ones saying the iphone isnt a decent phone, but i agree its not worth the price people pay and the rediculous contract charges when phones like the desire and galaxy s are cheaper have better tarrifs and believe it or not have better specs for the most part.
android is also a much better OS than iphone but i guess thats down to choice.

I have used Andriod and it's all a matter of personal preferance. Its the whole PC vs Mac arguement again which could go on for eternity. Nowadays, as mentioned above, most phones do the same things, what sets them apart is the way they do it. Andriod have got very close to the fluidity of the OS UI but its taken a shit load more spec than the iPhone to get there resulting in poor batter life and still its not 100% in some areas as again pointed out above.
I won't mention the fact i was not refering to Android, it was in response to Steves 'cheap nokia' comment.

Don't know about 3Gs but Engadget reported desire returning a 6 hour battery life under heavy use and a further 2 under light use. The iPhone 4 returned 38 hours.
