Yeah, years and years ago. Must have stopped when I was about 18 and got into DH/freeride. Used to be a local race series run by Marshalls Cycles. Also entered a few at Thetford and the race series run at Bracknell/Swinley. Plus done the odd 24 hour and the HONC a few times.

I'm gonna go in at the bottom and go for the fun category for any xc races I do this year then look at sport or ope next year when I've figured it all out.

Did it myself recently, as the memory from snapping one riding up hill is forever engraved on my brain, down hill is the preferred snap point

Engraved in your brain or bollocks? I've only ever snapped whilst putting pressure on pedals before. I was ragging it down some steps so imagine chain was slapping all over place and got caught up. I kept going cause I thought it was just a stick stuck somewhere, ruined my strava time These newer mechs with clutches are designed to keep more tension in the chain for moments like that I think? Maybe I need one of them!

I snapped a chain last week too, I have DMR V12 shaped imprints in both my calves and was slightly violated by my saddle. Was going downhill too.

Dusted off my bike today and cycled to work, I think it's about 4 or 5 miles each way. Feel quite awake for it too, bit of fresh air in the morning

After I ride home today I am going to have to take a few days off the bike. Got a disgusting cough and the lung capacity of a flea and I dont think my normal way of 'getting on with it' is helping.

It's not as good as Whinlatter but worth doing if you haven't done it before. When I go I stay on the bridleways then do the last couple of descent sections of the North Face down to the visitor centre. That's the best bit of the North Face. The rest of it is a bit worn out unless it's been repaired since I was there last.
There's a new trail there now a bit more downhill style but I haven't been on that yet

just make sure you get to the front of the pack for the climbs and teccy bits on the first lap. as the open/fun ones often have aload of muppets that get off and push getting in the way......

last bit has a few jumps on it yeah and quite fast. Decent though definitely doing it again soon. Mabie is ok although not enough descent really, middle bit is good however.
I'm going to do the rest of the 7stanes bits in the next couple of months hopefully. Way more fun than cars, and cheaper.

I know which bit you mean on Mabie, nice flowing corners. After that it just seemed like a slog to get back to the car and it was really deep mud on one of the last parts. I wanted to do all the 7Stanes but after I face planted at Glentress I've never been back

Suppose for you there are plenty of non trail centre routes nearby to get on with. Whinlatter is the best one for being maintained anyway, and a decent ride out really.
