Above the Law on the road to Monte Carlo
Gumball 3000 has reached it's final destination, Monaco, where the exhausted rally drivers are on board a luxury cruise ship in the harbour. Yesterday's drive from Rome to Monte Carlo was a long stretch, and although the Gumballers were near the end of the rally, they weren't letting up whatsoever.
The 1985 Ferrari Testerossa has had various run in's with the cops and say that at the beginning of Gumball they had total regard for the law and by the end they didn't care. Richard and Marcus (pictured below) have been pulled by the cops 10 times, but got away with just one fine (350 Euros and Marcus's license in Belgium).
In Prague they were pulled over along with the black F430 and told to give the cop a 500 Czech fine for going 150mph. Richard had no Czech currency so said he'd give him 500 Euros instead, which must be more. The cop said instead he should send a cheque (no pun intended) in the post, then asked if they could wheelspin their Ferrari for him.
Yesterday Marcus was filming an Italian cop out of the window cruising at fairly legal speeds, and the polizia started following them with the lights flashing. The boys had no cash whatsoever so just sped up and went on the run. Once it got serious (130 mph+) they were past the point of no return and knew it was jail or break, so they sped up to 160mph weaving through all lanes and the hard shoulder to get away. The cop car was an M3 that topped out at 150mph, and after 60 miles they Testerossa had lost him.
Then just a few hours later, the fellas got busted hammering down the hard shoulder behind Alex Roy in his police replica M5. This time the cops had a helicopter and stopped both cars, demanding their licenses and keys (incidentally Alex has a spare set for situations like this). Both cars thought they were in hot water when the commissioner of the police turned up; but he inexplicably insisted the other cops let them go!
You may be thinking the police will just take their number plates and get the DVLA (the UK's Government driving dept) to deal with it, but apparently they can't. That's what Marcus said when he was raging hard in a bar in Monte Carlo so don't quote this website in your defence.
Speaking of expertise in breaking the law, I met up with Dave Courtney at the finish in Monte Carlo. Dave worked in London's criminal underworld all his life, and was the inspiration for Vinnie Jones' character in Lock, Stock &Two Smoking Barrels. He now writes books, works in films and this week is having his house 'Big Brothered up' so you can go online and live with Dave Courtney.
Dave spotted some Gumballers having lunch whilst he was filling up his monster black Ford F150; so for a laugh he put on a gas mask, got a replica machine gun and barged into it. The staff s### themselves and hit the police panic button, so when Dave took off his mask and they realised it was a joke they told him he had to bail asap because the cops would be on their way!
Bez's crew made it in their van and had a brilliant time on the rally, although the camera crews who've travelled with him are shocked they got all the way round. They don't have a map and forgot their money and cards, so are having to blast past toll booths and come up with ingenius ways of getting petrol.
The ice cream van has also made it against all odds, considering it shakes at above 70mph, and it broke down three times. It's crew are so absolutely eccentric it's hard to figure out what drives them to do this - but they have produced a movie called G.I. Jesus about the war in Iraq (of which they're not supporters), hence the desert camo look. Their buddy Jeff who's driving the rented Mercedes is by various accounts one of the craziest drivers on the rally, described as either "a s##t hot driver or suicidal".
Today the Gumballers don't have to get up and drive, so they'll doubtless be having an all-dayer in Monaco whilst they watch the qualifying rounds of the F1 Grand Prix. Tonight the biggest party of them all will take place on their ship, where the coveted Spirit of the Gumball will be announced.

yea, but wtf is that?
there is no such think as a cloaking device - jammers yes, but what does military cloaking device mean? Its too smooth to reflect/soak radar, so that rules that out and your local DIY do it all door garage remote would jam alot of speed guns -
Richard, i make it your mission to hunt out some more info on it  
edit - just thinking about it, i believe you can get paint that absorbes radar waves to a certain degree (similar stuff used on F117 stealth planes), but i believe it doesnt work that well, hence the angles of the outter skin etc

Not to be confused with Colins Cocking device, a cloaking device uses gravity manipulation technology similar to that used by the deflector field. A powerful gravitational lens bends the radiation emitted by active sensors around the vehicle, while the vehicle's own emissions are trapped within the "well" created by the field. This renders the vehicle completely invisible to both active and passive sensors. .
A vehicle can remain cloaked for hours before starts to leak emissions. After that time, it is no longer shielded from passive detection, although it remains invisible to active sensors. A vehicle must decloak for 20 seconds to radiate its stored emissions, after which it can cloak itself for another 4 hours. The sudden burst of radiation released upon decloaking gives a +10 to any attempt to detect the vehicle with a passive sensor!

Make your vehicle invisible to Laser Guns
Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) and Stealth Technology were first developed for use by the military. This exciting technology is now available for civilian use. This is what FastGuy says...

How does it work
A Transducer
The key is the special transducer. Packed with sophistocated SM electronics and infra red optoelectronics and we're not saying exactly how it works. (If you try to take one apart to find out you will void your warranty- and probably damage the transducer as well) We cannot disclose the technical details but system operates like this.
When you start your car you throw a switch to activate the device. If you become a target of a laser gun a warning beeper sounds a continuous warning tone- just like the 'missile lock' of today's fighter aircraft.  Although you are now 'illuminated' the operator cannot get a 'lock' on you. He finds nothing unusual in this- for a variety of different reasons he often fails to 'lock on' immediately to his target. You now have enough time to verify your speed is within legal limits. At this point you throw the switch to 'uncloak'. At that same instant the laser gun operator gets a good lock, zaps you with his laser and registers your speed.
Transducer Mounting Position
Does Laser Cloaking remove the need for a traditional Radar/Laser detector?
A cloaking device like this does not replace a radar/laser detector but should be used along side it. Laser is becoming much more widespread than it was a few years ago but radar is still widely used.
Safer than a radar detector used alone
Laser cloaking brings important safety benefits. Speed monitoring points are often set up simply to trap drivers. The locations are chosen to be as inconspicuous as possible and are often seen only at the last moment resulting in many vehicles breaking suddenly without apparent reason. If you have had vehicles in front of you behaving in this manner you will know how dangerous it can be.
Laser Cloaking along with a Radar Detector give drivers time to react in a controlled manner.

Easy to install
The cloaking device requires a little more installation work than a simple radar detector but not more than a car mechanic or competent DIY enthusiast could handle. The system comprises two special transducers which must be mounted in a forward position on the car. For example behind the grille or in the vehicle's air intake. They must be mounted to the left and right of a centre line passing through the car. A position should be chosen so they have a clear unobstructed view of the road ahead THROUGH THE AIR. In other words they cannot be mounted behind glass, plastic, metal or any other material. The transducers may be mounted in a horizontal or vertical orientation but the lenses MUST face directly forward. The transducers should not be mounted in a low position where road dirt is more likely to build up on the lenses or where stone chippings may strike and damage the special infra red lenses.
The two transducers are connected to a 12 volt source via a switch mounted within easy reach of the driver. A small beeper is provided which can usually be located behind the dash.
System maintenance
The only maintenance necessary is to keep the lenses clean by occasional rinsing with water. Heavy road dirt and grime and dried on insect debris can be removed by using a soft brush and plenty of water. A small spot of houshold detergent mixed with the water will help. Do not use 'non water' based solvents. Do not rub with a dry cloth. This can cause the gritty road dirt to scratch the lenses which will eventually degrade performance. If the lenses should become damaged replacements are available.

although it still sounds like a jammer ie: causes an error to pop up on the coppers speed gun/camera Its the only way that i know of "stopping lock" on a laser gun - ie: lock on to frequency, send random cack back to the camera, causes error on laser gun etc etc
