did they make the build quality as bad as a cornflake box on purpose aswell?
back to the original question:
to make a corsa 1.6 as fast as a standard 106 gti/saxo vts you need decent brakes, muchos weight loss and decent suspension.

peugeot would have set the brakes like that for a reason, there is no reason for them to not be very sensitive, disks and pads all round

or its just typical french tosh
no its has a torsion bar setup, most cars suffer from lift off oversteer that have torsion bars in the wet, my megane was chronic.
the good thing about the 106 is that its really controllable

build quality of the 1.4/1.6 sports is far better than the saxo vts.

dave i wouldnt say a corsa is a well built car, nor would i say a 106gti is awell built, i dont think a corsa is any better built, they are both as bad as each other, but im not starting that argument again lol

steve a post 97 corsa is better built than any psa 106/saxo
vts/r/106 are a better car as standard
a corsa with a 16v or better brake set up will be better than a saxo/106
a 1600 corsa would never keep up with a CTR above 60 IMHO

After all this banter thereisnt a great deal of difference in performance between then when there this close its all down to driver skill not the car imo.
When my 1.6 was all stripped out i kept with a standard 106 from 30 to 110 and i stayed about a car length or 2 all the time.
Ftr mine ran 113.6bhp when it wasnt running right

judging a cars performance whilst "racing" something down a duel carriageway or something is about the most innacurate way of determining how your car fairs against something else.
You need a drag strip style scenario to really see, what you can apparently keep with on the open road, when side by side you will find it a totally different story.
also its easier to stay with something when your behind it, then pull away if your the car in front

so in that case he pulled a few car lengths on you then going by your story hence his was faster
also was it just drivers in both cars? what size wheels were on both cars etc

IMO to make a corsa sport as fast IN A STRAIGHT LINE, you need to make a fully stripped one to about 120-125bhp or a stock one to 138-140bhp
i think most people would agree with that

I never understand why people think you have to spend £1000's on a 1.6 sport to keep up with a VTS/GTi
