I would definitely buy another VAG car.
My uncle, bro and mum have all had/have them and not a single problem.
Think mine has been most problematic.

We've had some form of Vag car since 1999, apart from a TT that was likely to take off and coilpacks on mine we have had no issues with any of them.
Cool story.

Not sure I'd buy one with the sort of mileage that cheaper ones have in general - something about that concerns me!
Just got a quote on one, £1800 FC - fook that!

Paul you need to drop the idea of the TT mate...
To save money with a second car but still have fun the only options you have are..
106GTI
SAXO VTR/VTS
CLIO 172/182
These will all give you 30+ MPG and be a hoot to drive. The only reason i never got one is because i need the bigger car.
I'm ok thanks, I'll just keep the s2000.
It's a myth if you think having a 106 gti / saxo / clio 172 will be cheap. My 106 gti went through 4 gearboxes, new rear beam, 2 coil packs, 3 injectors, 1 engine temp sensor, 1 tps sensor, 2 map sensors, set of engine mounts, about 3 clutches, etc... the new owner had it a month, the gearbox went. Then the head gasket, then now the bottom end has gone.
- Yes ... money in the bank.
- VAG is reliable.
Yeah what the fuck do i know hey...only had about 25 cars since i've been driving and have owned 3 out of the 5 cars i listed
Why do you bother asking stupid questions if your going to slate all the answers given to you.FFS even a monkey knows a TT drinks fuel
Good luck

You must have bought a dog of a GTI Paul as I've had no problems with mine, neither have people I know unless they go for crazy power and something decides to give up.

Oh right. Yeah - I have no doubts that modifying it didn't help.

Would have to be a 2002 onwards for me to try out the custom code VVT attack remap (if their claims are correct).
most are about £8-£9k for the ones I like.
oh, and I get about 25mpg
[Edited on 02-07-2010 by adiohead]
why the lcr has vvt all 180,210 & 225 models have it...?...

why the lcr has vvt all 180,210 & 225 models have it...?...
from their jargon:
"Below are a list of engine codes which use the VVT application:-
AUM, AUQ, BAM, ARY, BFU, BUR, BUP, AMK, BKU, BJX, BBU, BLZ.
The following engines do NOT use VVT:-
AGU, AQA, ARZ, AJQ, APP, APY, AUL, AQX, AYP.
Hope this is of some help to you."
the R32 owners don't seem to buy into the map.
I certainly won't be getting it unless some more people can independently verify their claims.
