thats really interesting
i suppose when you think about it, the two cars cancel out against each other so each car is like a solid object

fook being in that daewoo that hit a wall at 100mph though

the only way i can see that theory being true is if both cars are travelling the exact same speed and in some weird way it has a cancelling effect, if one is going faster then the other then of course it will make the overall impact greater

good point steve, they need to do one at 30mph and one at 70mph.

Were you wearing a seatbelt? as thats some injuries to have from 30mph, i have seen alot of crashes at alot higher speeds with no injuries apart from the odd cut from broken glass.
not saying you havent got the injuries though

No it won't.

It won't have exactly the same effect but it won't work the way you are thinking.

so if a car going 20mph hits a car going 120mph, then the impact effect on the 20mph car will be no greater then it just hitting a brick wall at 20mph

i think it only works on matched speeds. if your going around the same speed and you hit head on they counter act each other. But if one is going faster its split

still not convinced even with the equal speeds

i can appreciate it may not be double eg two 30mphs = a 60mph collision, but im not conviced there is no extra effect whatsoever

Were the videos with both the cars being exactly compareable and the identical g-force readings not enough

You should email them about different speeds, they'll do it in one of the revisit episodes.

glad you are all ok

as for the impact argument

mythbusters did an experiment with a car into a wall at 30mph and 60mph and a head on collision both at 30mph

the head on damage was equivelant to 30mph into a wall
