All you need to do is push it over and push again a little harder. Not majorly hard but can be annoying when you want to do it quickly.
My mum Focus has a Getrag box with the same set up

Best way to get them in reverse is to do it in one movement. Dont push it over then push again, just push it over in one go. Hard to describe but it'll go in every time that way.
Shit design though.

I drove my friends old X3 back home after dropping him of at Heathrow and I couldn't find reverse. Took me about ten minutes and a lot of bashing the gear lever

Hi.
Got it.
I remember many years ago my mate had a Mini Cooper, 02 plate one he got it brand new. Anyway I always had in my mind that, that car was the pinnacle of handling for a standard car.
So I'm driving the Astra about yesterday during the day here there and everywhere and it's a poised weapon of mass destruction.
I think driving the Astra before the Mini was a bad idea it's a testiment to how far the Astra has come and the choice mods I've done that it handles better than a Mini Cooper-S
BUT
I LOVE THE MINI the supercharger mmmmmmmmarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
It deffo needs more power, quick test on my private test track yesterday confirmed that end of slip road VXR is doing 130mph, Mini 105
I dug out my Sidewinder garage tapes and was blazin them while driving.
Oh and you Mini boys, the idiot said it's fine to run it on 95RON fuel but I think anything with a 'charger of sorts ought to be run on 99RON

Sound like my neighbour's vectra B with a fucked synchro.
Love it though, what's required to take them to the same state of tune as the GPs?
Also about the reverse thing with BMs, I got a shout of a boy I know's 116 and sat for about 5 mins wondering how the fuck to go back. I actually ended up trying to wiggle the steering from side to side to get it to snake back

I need to get vids of mine, fitted the GRS intercooler today too
Get yourself on Mini Torque. He tends to make a batch of about 15 a month, but a few pop up used in Classifieds. Things move very quickly in there though - usually sold within the day!
Oh and they're fine to run on 95 ron as standard, when they get the JCW treatment it's suggested you run it on better fuel, I didn't know that to start with! The difference between normal and V Power though is night and day - far smoother.
