because its merely an abbrviated term for pakistani. ive said it amongst other pakis and never got any adverse response.
maybe its because those of you that say it, say it only in a derogatory context - hence cant see it any other way, other than a bad way.

I think the big problem is people use it to describe anyone of that colour of skin because its more than likely the majority of people you would call a paki as an abbreviation are actually not from Pakistan at all. Hence why it can become offensive to some people. It's a nickname, often used in vain, for the colour of their skin, not their home country.

theres no doubting the term paki is considered offensive.
however its where offence stemmed from which I have issues with,
sometime way back someone must have just called someone a paki, and for some reason that person decided to react and call or show offence. Since then it has clearly stuck so basically its offensive because people of that race decided it is, and most probably a large portion due to barmy ott equal rights views, maybe a small part down to Dr Pepper and Fad. Now a whole stigma has been built up around a word that really shouldnt be offensive.
i remember a lot of people used to sing "hey pakistani has your mother got a fanny, does it smell, snif snif, fucking hell"
