Define 'fucking work over', surely that is what they have insurance policies? Not like the owner has to dip into his back pocket and if so then his fault for not being covered.

Shame its happened so soon on the job, however i'm sure you'll get sick pay which should suffice for the time off...

(That's not aimed at you chloe in anyway, so don't take it the wrong way, as ive only half read the thread as its full of shite.)

not everyone gets one small injury which heals on it's own.

my mate has testicular varicocele caused by lifting heavy clutches that get stuck in boxes. it's been an ongoing problem from him for almost a year and he may need surgery to sort it.

in this time, he can't lift anything too heavy as it aggravates the problem and has to change the way he does things.

now after surgery, he's obviously going to be off work. should he lose money because of the companies incompetence? or should he have a right to claim for loss of earnings?

Can I just point out, upto this point Chloe hasn't actually said whether or not she's intending on making a claim. She's been advised to take legal advice yes, she's not actually said what her opinion is on the matter. It's amazing how CS members know exactly how someone's mind works from a few posts they've made on the internet, probably the same people that will tell you not to take offence over things because 'it's just the internet'. So it's meaningless when they want it to be but also 100% factual at other times when they want it to be.

That would seem like a decent enough claim imo. Involves surgery and the problem originated from the job.

This is true yes but having your hands mauled by a dog (requiring surgery) is not a case of 'shit happens'.

Stupid comment, home insurance is nothing to do with sueing your work for an injury

Claimed on house insurance before too.

whilst i understand your injury i fail to see why your partner needs to be off work? sounds like you are making a massive deal out of it.

you can surely get around by yourself, use public transport etc.

So what's the big difference between claiming on home insurance and claiming on employer's liability insurance? In some scenarios it could be the same insurance company and I reckon your ability to work is worth a bit more than a carpet tbh. Obviously I agree that people shouldn't be putting claims in for stupid little things but the type of insurance they're claiming against makes no difference at all.
