Well it has this control on it that lets me adjust speed.

Don't know if the control is a different colour or something, making it worth less?

It is.

It is a motor, that spins. It can spin at different speeds.

Same as one that costs £400.

Where does all this '£400 polisher' bollocks come from?

I've just had a quick look and the usual plac I order cleaning stuff from (Elitecarcare) only lists 2 maybe 3 polishers that come close to that money.

Double checked to make sure I wasn't being a retard, some grinders come with speed controls, it's most definitely just a grinder.

A variable speed grinder isn't cheap and a top brand polisher isn't £400. Makitas for example is approx £200.

Professionals have a requirement for the expensive ones, not denying that. That doesn't change the fact you can get the same results with a £30 one, which is just a grinder.

Neil H, try harder before trying to troll me, the popular polishers cost in that region.

I am also definitely a cynic btw, and have had both a £300 meguiars polisher and a £30 silverline one.

Don't you need something that will soft start for polishing? Fuck trying to put a polishing pad down on paint with a grinder going round at 2000rpm.

As ed just pointed out a good polisher will have soft start, variable speed and won't do close to the speed an angle grinder will work at.

No you're not though, polishers and grinders, even variable speed ones, operate at completely different speeds. The slowest you can slow a grinder down to is about 2000rpm, still pretty fast for polishing.

I posted an almost mirror finish astra ages ago that took me 10 minutes one afternoon.

When I get around to doing current car with the cheapest silverline rotary I could find on ebay I'll post more.

Be sure to use an angle grinder though, not the popular inexpensive Silverline polisher.

The silverline was about the same price as an angle grinder so I got that. It also doesn't have constant speed like the more expensive ones, any pressure and it bogs down, still does the same job.
