Snapped the stem cap bolt earlier

Will be off to the LBS first thing in the morning to get it fixed before hitting Cannock!

Any idea if this is a costly mistake?

Couple of options really although you're probably already at the LBS. You could get an "easy out" which islike a backward threaded screw. So as it goes in the stem bolt turns out.

The other alternative is to smash the star fangled nut done even further and leave it in your steerer and put another one in and replace the bolt which will be pretty universal.

So not costly at all!

For those considering a tow bar with full sus mountain bikes this is probably the best Thule rack.

http://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel4_tab.php?20327&gclid=CKGgvdXu6rYCFa7MtAod8mMAOw

Built in straps around the wheels and then use straps around the frame and rack.

Where you buying towbars from that cost £500? I presume that is fitted.

One for my Fiesta including electrics is about £170 DIY.

detachable swan neck for my BMW was £115 ish fitted in about an hour. £500 could be genuine parts price though.

newer stuff with canbus requires an additional box, but the wiring itself isnt exactly dramatic. well it wasnt on my bmw. just traced the wires with a multi meter by someone pressing the pedal/operating indicators etc. earlier cars without canbus are generally much easier. some cars actually have a wiring socket ready for a tow bar in the loom, most seem to actually.

Roof bars

Right, which lot of you pesky bikers have roof bars on their car and permanently keep them on there?

I've found actual Ford roof bars for my Fiesta which means replacing the rubber gutter with 3 smaller bits revealing proper mounting points. This then means I don't have to buy Thule bars with the horrible clamps around the door frame. They are about £105 and with just one Thule bike mount I'm looking at £180.

Do the bars really cause a lot of wind/road noise? My commute to work is 16 miles of motorway and as the Fiesta isn't the quietest I don't fancy extra noise. I'd look to remove the Thule Proride bike carrier when not in use.

Any info would be great
