My club does a 3 loops ride, last year I did it and the longest I had ridden was 50-60 before I did it. That day was a 130 mile day, it was tough and at the end I was shot but looking back it was great.

Fantastic feeling when you complete a big ride though isnt it, Rick?
Theres a few Audax rides down my way that I plan to do next year. Apparently an Audax is more relaxed than a sportive in that its timed but you have to complete it within a very generous time limit (not as fast as you can) and you get loads of sandwiches.

Don't have too many gels. You'll have a belly like an African child and be shutting through the eye of a needle.
Peanut butter and jam sandwiches are where its at!

Warm sandwiches? Give over.
Granted I wouldn't carry them if I didn't have a Camelbak of sorts.
Bloody roadies.

Its nothing to do with the bike I ride.
Its just general sandwich etiquette. Warm sandwiches are rank.

Not when you're starving half way up a Welsh mountain they're not.
Its like saying you don't take bananas or cake with you because that goes warm?!

Warm cake and bananas aren't sandwiches though
Those are foods that can be consumed warm. Sandwiches cant, and shouldnt.

parents are going meet me in llangollen with cool sandwiches lol.
I will aim to use the gels as little as possible hoping to only use them on the second leg.
Looking forward to it atm although still fairly nervous.

Yeah, although dont use them too late. Start popping them back before you feel completely empty. Smash one every 10-15 miles after 55 miles or something. Will keep you ticking over and hopefully stop you from hitting the wall.
Granted you may not be able to sleep for a week but you will have completed the ride.
What are you going to have in your sandwiches?

Peanut butter and jam.
1) Doesn't matter if they get warm, nothing to go off
2) Everything you need. Sugar, protein and carbs.

what about ham and cheese, some folk stick them in toaster.
Personally I wouldn't fancy warm sarnies though.
Anyway, i've striped my bike, also nicked pedals, seat and stem off a bike I bought for the missus, and put a new back brake on it. Just need to take front forks off and repaint and then my push iron will be sorted. Me and a colleugue are going to go cycling every Tuesday in place of running now we've done Hlaf marathon. Hoping to get a group together at work and maybe do a coast to coast, see how it develops.

Yes smart arse but then if you put it in a bag and go riding its still going to taste rank.
Basically sandwiches should be eaten fresh and straight away.
