he's armed his supporters.

well to quote Gadaffi he said "opening weapon stores to the people" an then later said in his most recent televised statement "everyone in Libya is now armed"

obviously his aim will be to arm his supporters but how will those handing out the weapons know the difference?

If it was about Oil surely we would have exploited the situation in Bahrain too who don't have the military capabilities Libya do?

I would like to think it is one in an effort to save innocent civilians from a tyrant.

Edit: Your all forgetting, BP already had Oil contracts in Libya.

So why haven't we invaded most of Africa

Exactamundo

We're never going to waltz into a country & get free oil, but what you can secure is more favourable contracts. Libya are one of the major oil exporters in Northern Africa, hardly surprising that everyone has jumped on the bandwagon

But what about the jews? And the greys? Would they allow this?

Also alot of people dont seem to understand how important having oil is. Plus without us "stealing" their oil, they would basicaly have no economy, and be in a far owrse position. Its only that the governments of these places dont distribute the wealth they recieve. Hence the up risings against the oppressive reigns of the dictators accross the middle east.

ITT: People making ridiculous uninformed statements

The notion that we would go to war simply to procure oil is ridiculous, if that was the case then we would have stormed Iran long ago using their nuclear program as an excuse to remove Ahmedinejad.

Quite the opposite, do you really believe that the UN would sanction this type of military action leading to the removal of a regime just so some of it's members could profit from the countries resources? do you honestly believe that? Do you not also think if this was the case Russia & China would not exercise their right to veto these actions? I mean if it is so blatantly obvious to somebody of your standing surely these 2 major nations wouldn't be so naive as to think this is simply the removal of a tyrant who is murdering civilians?

The UN sanctioned the move to enter Libya to protect its 'assets'

Its funny how not long ago, the US and the UK were all matey matey with Libya, especially with the whole lockerbie bomber negotiations.

All of a sudden, there's a threat to the Oil reserves and supply and everyone goes steaming in. Libya poses no threat to us as a nation.

We will go into Iran eventually, for the same reason we went into Iraq only to find there was no WMD's there, to protect 'assets' Its not about protecting the people. Our forces and other forces have been murdering innocent civilians on a huge scale in every conflict we ever enter, whether its the illegal use of firing depleted uranium ammunition to help dispose of some of the USA's nuclear waste (whereas the UK normally just send it in shipments to other countries, another selfish act that countries with poor economies can't realistically afford to refuse)

The simple fact is, if they wanted to stop civilians being killed, we would withdraw from every single country we currently occupy / are invading and the rest of th eworld would follow suit. But lets face it, its not about the civilians, its about money and a far deeper rooted necessity - Oil.

Next you'll be trying to say the revolt was instigated by the UN.

Also the very fact that a UK company already possesses a contract with Libya which renders your argument invalid. So i will just leave it there and leave you to believe whatever you have read in the Daily Mail

Plus Libya wouldnt be able to sell the Oil to anyone in the UN if they "stole" it. So it would be pretty much worthless.
