People in them nowadays you deffo think its because they can't afford the new ones, lets face it, you'd buy the new one given the choice, the only thing that stops people is the money.
Mk2 Golf Rallye would be better
Stupid thing to say IMO as that applies to almost every car that has a newer model!?

I've driven a TTS in the snow, not my own, and it was superb.
In fact just to go one better than that, there were 2 cars capable of driving in and out of our works car park last winter when it was at its worst; an ancient massive engined Disco with an LPG conversion and a TTS. A Range Rover Vogue with stupid wheels and tyres on it and even the directors ML had to park outside.

I drive my escort because i couldn't afford a focus with the money.
I picked a corrado because i have a passion for them.
I don't like the idea of picking an amount of money, then seeing what car you can get for it. Obviously people have a budget, but i picked my car for other reasons, it was a stupid choice for the budget when i saw what other cars i could get, but i knew i would of been bored of an astra gsi or golf gti
Just look at the weird list of car choices at beginning of thread, the common theme is money.

thats because i don't have an emotional connection or passion to any car which is in my budget.
i'd love an escort cosworth but it wouldn't fulfill my criteria or being a good daily, good insurance cost and in my budget.

tbh, 95% of people on the internet just repeat the sentences they want to hear.
Thats why so many products are highly rated now, who is going to pay £500 for coilovers, fit them, and they say they aren't very good.
Yeah!
Some guy said I would need "luck" because I bought Mintex pads and not the expensive DS2500 ones he sells.
I'm sure I'll be fine on the Mintex ones I'm fitting next.

Just for the record. The haldex system only works when it detects the front wheels loosing grip. It worked superbly on my R32 anyways.

this thread sums up this forum to be honest
Plenty of people with massive opinions based on nothing - as they have either never driven the car/owned the car etc
JR is correct - Yes its got 4wd capability but it markets itself as quattro which it clearly isn't
Also you have to ask why a 225bhp car needs 4wd - it adds over 200kg to the cars weight and adds little value
hence why the Mk2 versions went FWD apart from the V6
Capability in the snow is amuch the tyres than it is the setup
I work in Finland a lot and most cars are BMW's and Mercs and suffer -20 winters - they just use snow tyres and it works perfectly
Its GREAT

i agree, and my comments were based on having expirenced most of the audi range between 99 and 2010, but then John knows more about my career than me it seems too

You are always here saying how it's a golf in a frock and fake 4wd bla bla bla yet everyone who has them always says it's a great car.
Driving it round the yard does not equal owning one.
