Anyone that goes into a warzone gets issued with Card Alpha. This card states the RoE for the current theatre.
That is a legal document. That is exactly what you can do. This is in line with the Geneva convention and all the other political gubbins.
He has blatantly ignored these guidelines.
There are troops over there now. Facing a whole load of shit as this has become public knowledge.
It's a hard enough job over there without wankers like this going and giving the 'insurgents' more ammo.

at least these days the soldiers are allowed to keep ammunition in their weapons. My boss tells a story of when he was serving in Aden and they weren't allowed to keep ammo in their magazines/rifles. There was one instance when they came under fire and went to load their weapons, only to find out they had the wrong ammo  something to do with the weapons with gas parts needing a ridge on the round to eject the empty case or vice versa
