I hope May and Hammond stick with Clarkson. I'm sure sky will just re make top gear with them on so hopefully it isn't the end.
I'll just have to carry on watching Dave until then

Isn't a short career one of the reasons presenters, footballers etc. and everyone else trying to justify their ridiculous salaries cite when talking about how much they earn?
In which case the bubble has burst, crack on. I'm sure there are other opportunities for all of them.
Oh I'm off the job centre, oh I need to sell my Ferrari, fuck off mate.
Wouldn't be surprised if that's all scripted as well.

No not watched it for months.
When you look what is on the internet you have to wonder how long it was going to last anyway. You can get Chris Harris, Guy Martin, loads of yank stuff and they're not scripted cunts acting up.
If you want examples, see Chris Harris in Geneva talking to real people in charge of stuff. If that was TG they'd be walking around falling over and breaking stuff. Guy Martin 143M 500 video, he's got more knowledge in his little finger than the other three. Roadkill in which actual people who can work an actual spanner to actual things to actual cars and not just fuck them up.
Loads of choice so it was always going to end. At least now whatever project comes next is going to get a load of publicity so the backroom deal to hand over rights is still profitable for the taxpa, I mean licence payer.
No doubt James May will get some more pseudo engineering ooooh look at this simple thing explained like a dickhead which actually sounds impressive because its quite rare on TV to see something educational these days and Hammond will retire to day time TV pretending to ejaculate in his pants every half an hour.

Top Gear was/is an entertainment show (since the revamp) rather than a straight-up motoring show like those you've mentioned*, so i'm not sure they're directly comparable - similarity stops at 'cars'.
Granted, if you want factional programming then there are better alternatives but for general twatting about with cars then Top Gear certainly was that and 5/6m weekly viewers would appear to agree that it was an entertaining show.
But whilst i'm not condoning what Clarkson did, it was an horrific act for him to do and losing his job is really the only sensible outcome, he was certainly what made Top Gear, Top Gear and it's a shame to see it go (in it's current form; the next revamp is likely to be awful) - hopefully the three of them get picked up elsewhere.
* Chris Harris and Guy Martin are brilliant; majority of the 'yank' presenters are god-damn awful however, you just have to look at the drivel they pump out on Driven.

Don't really care about Clarkson, May or Hammond. May came across as a right twat saying "cant speak now need to put my Ferrari on ebay. The joke is the public payed his wage through the license fee.

Oh no, what else will i spend a small proportion of 12 quid a month on?
He probably gets less than a penny from my license fee.

All the same, I reckon the BBC are potentially going to lose a few million viewers. Wikipedia lists Top Gear viewing figures and some are 7m.

This might be scripted as well but as someone with a vague grasp of what is going on, this seems a bit more genuine.
6m pw is impressive but less so when you consider that there are 60m people in the country and of those 50% are probably stupid.

Cant compare Top gear to actual car shows.
It was a bit of a laugh. The people who hate clarkson and co, are those who can't see this.

Seen it before and it is a good series and well worth a watch (to anyone else) but this leans more towards reality/factual programming with a bit of (yank) humour thrown in rather than a flat-out entertainment show with cars which is what Top Gear was (this was what i meant by twatting about); so again, i don't believe it's directly comparable.
I'm not disagreeing with you in that there are some damn good car shows about but (the British) Top Gear was pretty unique with the current presenter line-up and i'm not convinced it'll be easily replaceable, even if the three of them moved to a different channel/network.

Top gear was starting to wear out. They would never of quit while they were ahead. That's the problem with it being a comedy show rather than a factual car show.
I think a show of only challenges would be better. No studio or audience or star in a car etc

I think Clarkson knew his time was coming to a end at the BBC, screwed them over by fucking up this series ending royally, creating massive publicity for himself and will now piss off to another channel with the May and Hammond and be laughing all the way to the bank.

Never really understand this rather watch Harris/Turbo yoda etc bollocks.
Who on earth would you want LESS choice for car programmes?!
The way I see it, this is going to lead to Top Gear being revamped for BBC that will no doubt be Cringeworthy reviews of Meriva diesels and Deano's MPG corner. Or you never know it could be good? But it means Clarkson et all will be off to Sky/Itv whatever and have a bigger budget, more advertising revenue and make a new show that is entertaining and funny.
So we will end up with the choice of two, you can watch both, neither or simply just one. The choice is yours in this free world.
Sad day but I can't see how they could not have let him go. Can't just turn up at work and windmill your colleagues and not get in shit. Plus if the Beeb had given him any leniency they would have been buttfucked by the media/nation after savill/nonce gate.
Let's hope this just gives them some creative ideas and we end up with two car shows rather than one.
