well that would be telling wouldnt it? and i assure you i havent yet had a vts that can keep up with me, a 5 turbo is 120bhp in standard form but has the added bonus of the blower strapped to it, so it would be close in standard form, as for my spec, its a stage 1 t2 turbo technics blower, grp a head gasket and bolts, uprated exhaust manifold gasket, green cotton filter, strapped and flowed intercooler, 130main carb jet, usually runnin 10psi but the incar boost helps me when i need that little extra push for the big cars with the incar shut my car boosts to 7psi, samco boost and coolant hoses, magnex 2 1/4 straight through exhaust from downpipe to back box to a 3 inch tail pipe! oh and another little mod of my own

ok... so its not standard then... we can safely say over 150hp ? which yes... would have no difficulties in straying a VTS away... I would be happy to compare figures on the VTS engine when I get me mits on one (not a Saxo shell the 106) im sure with some modifications it could keep up with you. Have you ran a standing quater?

nah, wanted to at usc but the previous week the fanbelt snapped and had to drive it home hence the head gasket going in the process, so id only just put it back together so i could go, done a couple of hundred mile now, gonna check the headbolts again, reset the tappets, coolant flush, then take it off to be set up at europarts in stoke ready to play again!

Back to the original question....
A 16 engine flows more air and mixes air and fuel better at high rpms than does an 8V engine, which is generally more efficient low down the rev range. At 100mph+, even in 5th gear, you're going to be revving the engine at 4500-5000rpm. The 8V engine may well be past it's peak torque figure by then, whereas a well designed 16 engine will still have its peak torque to come, and maybe explains why for a similar quoted power, it can pull away. Just my 2p worth

Thanks Andy.. this is possibly the best topic on CS in a while
I have noticed the VTR lacks power after 100mph... I think they dont really get past 110mph flat out !

standard i aint sure bout a standing quarter, but i think theyre sumthin like 7.1 0-60 in standard form! which aint too bad, but think that a 5gt only weighs in at around 863kg theyre really fun to drive i think, and i wouldnt wanna change it to go back to a corsa, i know its old but i just love the fun factor of it, nearly bought anuva one last week!

Still faster than my fooking Corsa. Clutch pedal bracket shattered last week - still off the road. One day I'll get to drive it for more than a month without something falling off. Oh how I long for a fast STANDARD car

thats why we have ferrari's and porsches
My mate from here marshall has a mk1 vtr... we did a rolling 30 - 110 run both cars virtually standard... nothing in it at all.. I was running 16's though, but if I had to say, I reckon he was gaining maybe a few feet every 5 seconds ?

Anything at all, just to give me something to look at and get an idea... ive learned 0-60 is a crap measurement of how quick a car is... gimme a RR printout and a 1/4 run anyday !

I want to see how mine compairs to a VTR and VTS, was rolling roaded at 146bhp for a 1.6 16v.
Only problem is the size of the wheels slows it down a bit, 19s!
