BTW, before any1 says a CLio 182 is faster check the specs... CTR 6.6/7 to 60, 146mph 16.5(ish) 0-100, 182 7.1 to 60 139mph and 17.5(ish) to 100 (thats the new type r btw)... wud be good 2 c a race between a 182 an a CTR tho

For the Japanese market they made & sold stripped out versions of the EK Civic Type R, it was really poorly specced, but then again it was meant for racing. They also sell a stripped out DC5 so I expect there's also a version of the EP Civic in a similar fashion

lol you got some learning to do mate Like bubblevaux said, the 16XE engine (not the X14XE/X16XE) made massive power for its capacity thanks to its design and mechanics. It was actually brought down to 109bhp by fitting a restrictive inlet manifold. This was designated the C16XE and was released into the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa B GSi. This happened because at the time, in 1992, the Astra GTE was still selling well with its famously good C20XE engine, and vuaxhall did not want its little pocket rocket brother the Corsa turning into a more capable machine than the astra. Also the Astra mk3 GSi had an imminent release with the 20XE engine too. It would have been embarressing for vauxhall to fit the unrestricted 150bhp 16XE unit into the corsa. It has been known that with Throttle Bodies, the C16XE can make 220bhp, albeit with a 10k RPM rev limit, but no fancy valve timing at top end. Incredible to say the least. Anyhow, the C20XE can easily make 290bhp with normally aspirated induction and Throttle Bodies, i would be interested to see if a CTR can make the same amount of power in NA form.

You know nothing matey..
VTEC = low and highlift cams in one...
Basically if you put highlift cams, you have a VTEC system but no bottom end grunt..
Hondas run higher compression than vauxhalls, unless you change the bottom end, the honda is always going to make more power...
Same mods on 10.1 compression, versus same mods on 11.1 compression.. which ones going to produce more power?
If you are talking about changing pistons, then its not really a vauxhall engine is it?
But im willing to put money on it that a Honda engine has way more potential (in HP terms) than any corsa engine
There are Civics in the US producing upwards of 300whp NA..

Clio is smaller than a Civic, so the comparison of speed is pretty pointless.
Like they only get compared because they are 'hot hatches', they are different classes of car like astra / corsa, or fiesta / focus.
The 172's aren't the rocket ship the owners think they are, and smaller Turbo engines are more effective, I watched a more or less standard Starlet Glanza wank over a couple of rugby shirt wearing, cider drinking, 'ollies' in a 172. If speed was the only factor everyone would be driving old turbo cars and tuning them, and not jacking off over 182's, cups and fookin hondas.

Have a look on Honda-tech.com
There are RSX's on there (same engine as CTR) pushing 300bhp... to the wheels - thats 340-350 in our numbers..
...thats NA btw...
Lots on there with TURBO'd K20's (CTR engine) running upwards of 500whp.. There are rumours of a 1000whp engine being built up
Of corse the C16xe will EASILY do that..
B16's (CRX VTEC engine) 1.6 so comparable to the C16xe - hmmm, can you say 320whp (350 ish) NA !
Upwards of 500whp again turbo'd

Whilst I have all the resect for Vauxhall engines and their power potential, comparing them to Honda Vtec engines is like comparing having a wank over some porn and shagging some strippers.
There is no comparison.

Its not as easy as just saying, right, lets drop it to 3k rpm and have more power..
The VTEC changover point is where the standard cams make less power than the VTEC cam..
You can probably lower it 200-300 rpm, because there is usually a small dip in power just before VTEC engagement..
If you drop it too much you will make LESS power on the high cam than the low cam..
What your mods are will effect when is the best time for VTEC engagement, basically you do a run on low cam, and one on high, where the two graphs cross (where both cams are making the same power) is the best point for VTEC.
On my Prelude for example, standard was 5100, I dropped it to 4700, as thats where the high cams started making more power than the low cam.
Smooths the VTEC 'kick' thou.
no mention of it in there
