been reading the project and looks like good progress is been made. As for the the O license you wont need one, the vehicle is not been used for hire or reward (as far as i can make out) and is only really for personal use same as a large camper van or motorhome. For example i could go out tomorrow and hire a tractor unit and trailer for lets say moving house without a O license but if i was to deliver a pallet for a company then i would need a O license as that is classed as hire and reward. As for the licensing Anyone who passed their test in 97 wont be able to drive it but anyone who passed before 97 will be able to which will be classed as C1 upto 7.5 tonne. Be careful re-classing because it could get classed as a passenger carrying vehicle rather than a goods carrying vehicle as some motorhomes can actually carry a bigger amount of passengers and then you'll need a category D license or D1 depending. The best thing to get info is to actually goto the VOSA goods testing station and speak to the person incharge there explain what you are building and they will explain how they will test and class the vehicle. i work for a coachbuilder where we regularly have vehicles tested from been built and the same vehicle with different specifications has different class's we recently built a bus for the fire service and was classed as a goods vehicle rather than a psv. I hold my class 1 license and canot drive coaches or bus's but in that case i could actually drive the bus because it was classed as a goods vehicle, where as the lads i work with hold their psv and could not drive it.

I'll be fabricating a tow bar for it to tow a trailer with the car on.

A Spec is the thing that comes out of the rear of some of the bigger recovery trucks that lifts the front wheels off the ground to pull the car along

Indeed.

Got an advert up on Truck Net to swap passenger seats with anyone who has a single and I've also mailed two people on Ebay selling wagons to see if they want a cheeky switcheroo before the auctions close.

A SPEC doesnt have to be automated you could build one using jack components and have it slide out the back on a lock pin.

You obviously need to look into 'train length' does your license cover you to drive the 7.5T with a trailer? Obvioulsy having a car on the back will count as a trailer technically but if you get pulled you can release a car and have it recovered later but abandoning a trailer is a different kettle of fish

Yeah I can drive a train of 8250kg so the wagon needs to come out under 7.5t to tow a car.

I doubt you'd get it anywhere near its 7.5T gross unless you go mad with fittings lol

Its not that heavy, had it on a weighbridge and it came out just under 5t after deducting the weight of what was in the back.

Puma on the trailer is 1480 which means the wagon can weigh 6770.
