I don't want to sell more than a certain amount - this is a small operation and I just want to test the production process (hence the short offer period).

Restricting sales will make you look like a tin pot operation imo, no matter how small you are, you dont want the consumer to know that.
If you dont want a huge amount of sales in one go that you cant cope with then you could reckon to everyone that there is a waiting list because these clocks are so cool.
People lap that shit up as well, makes you look uber cool.

Suppose so - I'm going along the http://www.made.com route of selling these at the moment, seems like a popular site.
Could I ask a favour, could some people like my Facebook page, I need 15 or something likes to get a vanity URL: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Wordclock/232921493459437

Are you going to get it CE approved?

CE approval, what's that? On a low risk product you'd self certify it and place a CE mark on it to state you're conforming to a set of guidelines.

Kickstarter is only available in the USA and all the UK clones are shit/bloody expensive! I could have really done with the publicity you get with a good Kickstarter campaign but it's not going to happen yet

It'd probably only fall under the EMC directive anyhow, which I suspect most of the component parts already conform to, so worst case it'd require you to pull together a technical construction file to support the self certification...

Hopefully I'll be able to drop the price of this model one day if they're popular enough because I'm working on it's successor at the moment
Speaking of prices, I'm thinking of doing another special offer type thing next week. Will be a discount code to get one for about £119 delivered if anyone's interested.

Looks pretty smart - I do like that style and they do look good when they're big. Someone's asked me to make a big one for them
