Monday 28th April
1.6km warm-up at 6: 05 min/km pace
2 x 1200m at 4:55 min/km pace
2 x 800m at 4:48 min/km pace
1.6km warm-down at 6: 05 min/km pace
I did the two slower 1.6km sections in my Nikes and changed to my Vibrams for the faster paced running. It's the first time I've worn the Vibrams in a few months and I definitely need to break my feet back in.

6km tonight in 30mins 17s. Av. pace 5.03m/km
Thought I'd broken a toe last night in fight with a bookcase. Looks like its just bruised. Could fel it on the run but not too bad. Sore now though. Needed to run tonight as not done anything for a week and got Great Manchester Run on 18th.
Hoping to be able to av. around 5m/km through the 10km with the help of crowds and adrenaline!!

what shoes are everyone wearing?
I have a pair of Pegasus 29s which are a half size too big and also aren't really supportive enough past about 8k. I have a half coming up and fancy a new pair (95% Nike), any suggestions? preferably want some orange ones too...

I do most of my runs in Nike Free Run 5.0's and the odd shorter run in Vibram Seeya's. If you are a heel striker I wouldn't recommend either.
If your current Nikes have been good, why not get another pair. If it ain't broken don't fix it.

Ah sorry, I read that as they weren't as supportive now that you've had them for a while.

I've got Adidas Supernova Glide something or other I think?
I'm a bit of an Adidas fan tbh, but i've also got wide feet and Adidas seem to suit that.

Excuse the really shite pic.
I just chose these myself to replace my other 8 year old gym/run trainers! Next time i'm going to get a proper analysis done etc at a proper shop. Had no issues but its probs worth it in the long run (no pun intended!)

Everyone raves about expensive shoes but when I started running I went to Sports Direct or somewhere equally rubbish and spent £40 on something that felt light and comfortable.
Must've run 300miles in them over time and still super comfortable. Maybe I just got lucky

PB'd for 10km this morning.
49.03min. Sub 50 club!!!
Absolutley over the moon with that. Got the sub 50 monkey off my back. Everyone said I should be able to do a sub 50min and pressure was on to do it at Manchester 10km, but with 40,000 other runners etc. it was unlikely.
Felt great today. It was one of those runs. Didn't go out with intention of doing a full 10km or going for a time. I also think i've been overheating. Went out today for the first time with no underlayer on my top half. Felt so much better!

My splits..
1 5:09.1
2 5:13.4
3 5:01.2
4 5:08.6
5 4:56.6
6 4:53.3
7 4:53.0
8 4:43.6
9 4:38.4
10 4:25.8
At about 6km I knew that a sub 50 was on so kicked on a bit. The original plan for the run was to run at a steady 5:01 - 5:05 average pace for 8.5-9km to see how I felt and to give an idea if a sub 50min was on for the 18th!

went for a quick run before going to the pub got a 5k pb of 23min 14 seconds which I'm beyond happy with. i don't think i will see sub 21min before the year like i planned sadly.
overall pace over 3.8 miles was 7 min 40.

Ben - That's great! It's always good to drop under a specific time. What's the next target?
Nic - Why don't you think you'll see sub-21 min? You've already taken a significant chunk off your original 5k.
Sunday 4th May
8.00km in 46:11 @ 5:46 min/km pace
Conditions were great again tonight, but it just felt like hard work. I've had a pretty busy weekend; however, my legs felt like lead from the off. Hopefully it will be a bit easier tomorrow night.

That's fair enough, I still think you will get very close if not achieve that goal.
Monday 5th May
6.4km in 37: 02 at 5:47 min/km pace
It took until around mile 3 of the 4 mile run for my legs not to feel like lead again. I'm blaming the long bike ride I went on with some mates round Swinley Forest earlier today.

Tuesday 6th May
1.6km warm-up at 6: 05 min/km pace
6 x 400m at 4:48 min/km pace
6 x 100m at 4:22 min/km pace
1.6km warm-down at 6: 05 min/km pace
Legs felt great tonight, which is a bonus as I didn't really want to be doing speed work if they weren't feeling up to it.

Nic how did you start?
I've always hated running but made myself go yesterday.
Saw the couch to 10k, is that worth downloading?
I struggled yesterday as had no control over my pace so was knackered very quickly.
