Erm, theres loads of shite players in the PL that cost more than him. He has attracted a premium because, not only did he stand out in a shit team/league but he is also English.

Connor Wickham is the epitome of what is wrong with the English transfer market. I've no doubt that he's a talented young lad who could do well in a few years time if left alone and out of the spotlight but as soon as the "next rooney" tag got applied it destroyed his career for good. Hes constantly talked about as a big talent when in reality what has he genuinely done to deserve this? Think about the fact that he and Wilshere, for example, are roughly the same age. TWELVE MILLION POUNDS and the lads done what exactly? Not really shown the potential to be a £12m player either
Phil Jones and Chris Smalling went for silly money too IMO but they were at least doign well for their Prem clubs, Wickham has hardly scored any goals for a championshiop team

I think he only went for just over £1m but i seem to recall how much he got bigged up which didnt help him at all.
We do put wayyy too much pressure on young lads early on. Wickham is no doubt a talented lad, but it does him no favours getting compared to Rooney when he hasnt even played a top flight game yet. People are going to expect too much and rip him to pieces at the smallest sign of failure

Darren Bent never played at the top level, he scored an abundance of goals for Charlton even though they got relegated, Sunderland bought him he scored loads of goals, Villa bought he scores goals.
Wickham is a better more complete player at the same age than Bent was.
Also, his scoring record keeps being thrown around but he was playing left wing when Keane was in charge.
I'm sure I read earlier 20 starts last season 9 goals from that.
