not quite as easy as going out and buying a 106 gti im afraid. personal preference but im fed up of hearing the raving about 1.6 gti's
not as easy? ok buy one that has already been done (loads of them about and cheaper)
i dont really like 106s but i think its bloody good times for a car with only 120brake
they are still crap IMO. AND in reference to the previous comment, find a semi decent one for 2k

comparing it with a car 300kg's heavier, yes, fair point.
similar times also to the teg r and ek9 civic and they are 200+kg lighter than mine so must only be 100kg of the weight of a 106 if your 300kg was correct

and really, buy the polo
worth more, wnt have been treated as bad or had the ass kicked out of it, wont need the gearbox changing every time you try to find 3rd gear, the dash wont rattle and pieces break off onto your leg like it was made from a kinder egg. and if you do a journey that lasts more than 14 minutes the seats are quite uncomfy, and you can also tell that the door has shut properly and wont be annoyed by the sound of what appears to be a door mechanism made from netto mechano

I'd get the Polo personally, I don't think just handling is worth buying a car for. A Ford KA is a decent handling car, but i'd by no means buy one. I should imagine the Polo is the best all rounder out of the 2, but I have'nt experianced either so i'm mainly assuming.

for the reputation they have, thats pretty pathetic performance figures.
id be ashamed to have a gti badge on one really. waste of a name
i think there reputation is mainly based around there handling and the fun factor of driving one, not for its straight line speed, or build quality for that matter
i dont think you can argue that they are probably the best, or one of the best drivers hot hatchs yo can buy as standard still
