the rods are almost fully exposed on Reactor 2 now. Could lead to a meltdown but looking unlikely

Interesting link-

have you ever looked into the truthfull facts about how many people actually died at chernoble?.....Its about 50 people- all were killed in the explosion - apart from a few workers who stayed working without safety gear and died of exposure to radiation over the coming weeks.

The really interesting thing is that not one single person has been proven to have a health problem due to radioactive exposure at chernoble. 99% of all those affected were treated and successfully cured of radiation poisoning - the only side affects were some skin rashes. There are no reports of children being born with any problems from the exposure there parents were exposed to.

Really suprised me when I read about this a couple of years back - up till then I always thought (as most of the reporters currently seem to do) that chernoble killed loads, and hundreds of kids were then born with major problems, I also thought it had led to many people in the area getting cancer. Apparantly the rumours spread aboout the severity of the incident were a mixture of anti nuclear activists, and just general hype from the tabloid press. Most of these rumours and scare stories have stuck and are now considered to have actually taken place.

Even wikipedia says 4,000 people could eventually die due to cancer from the disaster- but there is not a shred of evidence for this - World Health Organisation can not find any links between radiactive leaks and increased cancer rates - the levels people were exposed to were apparantly "no more harmfull than a ct scan". Not saying it was a good thing - but its suprising how most people think chernoble had many more casualties than it actually did

No, nuclear reactors are unique in this way that they cannot be simply switched off. You can absorb neutrons to stop the fission chain reaction by fully inserting the control rods, BUT there is still decay heat present, and it must be kept cool for a long period of time

Do what? How? Is Japan connected to the Russian powergrid? They aren't even close

South Korea is closest or maybe China but Russia? WTF who said this? Not another media outlet?

The Japanese government have already said they can cope with the nuclear stations going offline as long as everyone is sensible they just turn up the power on the coal burning stations.

"Unfortunately most of the people in Taiji survived, including the people slaughtering dolphins. However the dolphins that were captured were killed by the tsunami. They sadly were not set free "

They have a safe quota, it's no different to culling any other source of meat.

Only difference is dolphins are 'cute' as far as we're concerned.
