The standard audio in the Z4 is awful, I remember mine having no bass and sounding quite tinny and I'm far from an audio expert

Seems fine in mine. I've never been one for making my panels rattle though, just like it sounding decent enough.

The 10 speaker system is supposed to be great, but I don't think I'd need it. Same as sat nav. Would be nice, but not essential for me.

When the roofs down and the roads are windy, I turn the music off anyway. Nothing better than being down a country road, all alone playing your own song via the throttle.

Quite like my sound system. Shame my cd changer has packed in acknowledging discs tho I'd rip it out for the extra storage but it's not easy to get to I don't think.

Can't wait for next Saturday! I'll have a proper exhaust sound track then

Can't wait to hear how it is, Gav.

Someone said you need a backbox for MOT nowadays? Is that true or just another Internet rumour?

Internet I think. Technically there is one it's just different. The emissions shouldn't be affected either and I don't think noise plays a big part in it?
The bmw specialist near me is the mot station too so I should hope I'll be ok

So after spending a small fortune on bits for the car, some absolute prick has hit my rear bumper and drove off

I don't know exactly when it happened but I was in 2 car parks today and I didn't notice it when walking back to the car in the 1st one.

5 separate marks in total. Cunts. And the plate light is on the piss.

I tried to touch it in but it looked shit. Might get a smart repair done, although I bet it'll be a bitch to blend in on sterling grey, which is a pearlescent.

Only place I can think it happened was at a local garden centre and I parked so far out the way that cctv wouldn't have caught it.

Might give the local chipsaway guy a call, but still pissed as I imagine it'll cost me about 100 quid.

Car was telling me to top up the oil today, so as I topped it up I decided to have a look to see if I could find a leak that's been bugging me for months.

On the left of the engine, above the manifolds, I can see a leak, which appears to be coming from the rocker cover gasket (awaiting confirmation of this).

Took a fair bit of oil, considering it only had an oil service a couple thousand miles ago.

Just another problem to add to the list. Still need to remove the passenger seat to find the source of a water leak no more roadsters for me, I think.

They don't always fill them when doing an oil service. They certainly didn't on mine. Light came on after a month or so

The oil was definitely changed as the light was on when it went in and has taken a couple of months to come back on.

It definitely was, hence why it's taken so long for the light to come on whilst leaking.

Used to come on every 1,000 miles or so.

Hoping it's a simple fix. Seems pretty common if it is the rocker cover gasket.

Finally finished re-tinting the rear lights!

What an absolute arse of a job it's been. Firstly, removing the clear lacquer and tint was tough and resulted in a blister each time.

Then the tint reacted so had to rub it off an re-do them again.

Finally got the 2nd one finished this morning, so will leave them for a bit before applying some more lacquer.

They do look a lot better than before though. Gave them 6 or 7 coats, starting light and then finishing with a couple of thick coats.

Also, after just over 5 months of the missus having her new car, an old chap decided to drive into the back of it he said he didn't notice the traffic had stopped at a red light, apologised and admitted liability for everything.

Whilst it's really annoying, at least it'll get repaired quickly now (hopefully). She wants a fiesta st next providing I can get one at a decent price.

Damage from what I could see quickly is rear bumper, crash panel behind is bent, rear wheel arch liner and the tailgate is out of alignment. Can get my fingers in the O/S, but the nearside is touching where it meets the 3/4 panel.

Lastly, really wish I didn't own a house so I could chuck money around buying a hardtop for mine. They look so good! Moneys in the bank, but my sensible head is telling me not to

Just got my OEM rocker cover gasket set through aswell, so hopefully get that fitted over the weekend to sort that oil leak out.

Was £27 for a pattern part one from eurocarparts or £35 for OEM, so decided to go for that for peace of mind.

Yeah they look pretty cool Ian. Only issue i'd have would be obviously wanting the roof off and taking the time to remove the hardtop, which i'm not sure I'd bother with.

Takes about 30 seconds to remove, it's a two person job though.

You can see mine has just been removed here, they are a lot bigger to store than they look though

2 person job is no good for me then i'm usually on my own during the day due to shift work. Bugger.

I can always dream though

Storage isn't an issue. Got a nice empty garage

Hard tops baffle me, the car already has a roof that moves when you press a button, why would you ever put some lump of plastic in the way.

Because fabric roofs look crap.

I do agree with you though, but they look so much better with a hardtop.

Would love a hard top
That one with the aero skirts looks great with it!

Think I would have a black one though to contrast

So after about 3 weeks, i've finally finished my rear lights.

So much better than before and shouldn't fade for a while (hopefully) due to the amount of tint spray and lacquer on them.

Gonna leave them a few days before re-fitting to let them harden up. I think thats what the bodyshop guys say anyway.

Hard tops improve insulation for road noise, don't freeze in the winter and give you advantages like heated rear screens and passenger compartment lights. It also let's you keep the rag top in good condition.

However I would never do it again, a right royal pain in the arse to store, two man job to fit/remove and sometimes the sun can make random appearances and if the garage is full or your on your own.. No convertible for you!
