My dad has just moved into a new house and theres no broadband avaiable, so ISDN is the only affordable option. (ie no satellite!) Does anyone know any specific ISDN related wireless routers or whatever? Ive set up wired networks with ADSL, but have no experience with wireless ones, or ISDN. Cheers if anyone can help, Matt!

yeah i know its slow etc, but he doesnt want cables all round the house. Im perfectly happy with my 100mbps connection in every room in the house! I just found this, but it has a built in ADSL modem which is un nesessary, but its on the right lines. http://www.seg.co.uk/products/a_vigor2600.html

yeah slow and if you live in a pre 1940s house with 10" walls dont even go there

yeah that router looks good, its an adsl router with ISDN backup so you'd just use the ISDN ,

have a look at Cisco's and Lucent websites they do loads of routers with ISDN backup

the hereford exchange has been enabled, just they are too far out of town to get it, so ill see if i can find one with just ISDN. Otherwise that might be the one. Ill check out ebuyer and dabs, had a couple of bad experiences with them in the past though. have u seen the message in south west bout a possible wales/west mids/south west meet by the way?!

I just bought a wireless access point and two PCMCIA wireless cards and everything works brilliantly, and its the same speed as if you were at a wired station for the internet

The way i have mine configured is:

Wireless access point plugged into ADSL router/modem (Netgear DG814), and router is configured as the DHCP server.

Router assigns IP to the wireless access point and also assigns an IP to any device connected to the wireless access point. All works hunky dory.

The way you would need to do it is:

On the host machine you would need a network card installed (obviously)

The host machine would be configured as a DHCP server, and it would have the ISDN modem connected to it and it would be configured as the ICS host system.

You simply connect the host computer and your wireless access point (dont forget to use a crossover cable ) then configure above, then configure your wireless systems as clients to obtain IP's ect automatically.

Job done

p.s. any problems u know who to come to

ZyXEL do some ok ISDN routers... not sure if they do a wireless access gateway in the same box though...

Forget Cisco etc though as they are aimed at the business market and I'm guessing you won't find one sub-£300...

i think im gonna get a wireless ADSL router with ISDN backup then just use the backup as the permanent connection, with the option of upgrading to ADSL one day if its possible
