Pfffffffff, thats BS, at 20 i was getting quotes of £1300tpft and £1700 FC> That was on a fully kitted Corsa, rear discs, retrim etc etc.

You need to shop around. THat'll go down to about £1500-£1800tpft me thinks.

I was told by HIC that they would quote me around £1600-£1700 TPF&T and Adrian Flux would insure me £2100 fully comp!

Thats with 1yrs ncb and when I was 19!

Ha ha i gave HIC a ring this as well james, thay basically said the same thing to me, if i put a 2.0 16v from a cav i would have to cough up an extra 1800 notes on top of my already 800 quid just for TPFT. so it looks like ill be waiting for a a few years then!!

James ill be up later to pick up that spoiler so if you wanna meet me at bluewater about 8. ill give you a ring anyway when im up there.

I think realistically, unless u have those kind of parents that help you out with everything then you need to wait till ur in ur 20's to insure one properly.

So, while ur waiting, why not just search and buy the engine, and strip it, re-build it with uprated parts.

That way, its all ready to drop into the car, and has good scope for future mods

no point wasting ur money on sticking a 1.4 in m8, buy a 2.0 16v and as daimo said, rebuild it n then its ready to stick in when u can afford it

use the 1.4 for everyday use (low tax/mpg etc), 2litre will be going in a project

Agreed with Stuyw, it might be slow at the moment, but u'll get bored of the 1.4 easy (trust me) and need more. PLus, the £500-£1k ur gonna need to fit it, well, thats a re-built 2.0litre with a few uprated parts.

Stick with the small lump, sort the 2.0 out, then dump it in when u can!

I think thats what im gonna do, its just finding somewhere to store an engine. think im gonna locate the lump then play around with it. and have a go at fitting it myself. cant be that difficult. might need help with wiring but the rest should be ok!
