Erm, actually, no I haven't
Running a single JL 500/1 at the moment, and 2 JL 12" W3V2-D2's
I've got a Directed 1.2 farad power cap but even with that, I'm still getting dimming lights on big drops. Is this down to needing a bigger cap, or a meatier battery in the first place? If so, recommendations..
Optima Red Top?
That Exide jobby?
Also, if I do change the battery, is it worth changing the alternator too?
Ta in advance folks

Bigger altenator first (if possible) and then upgrade to a bigger battery OR split charge with another battery (sealed jelly battery) in the boot

m-dot - I read it last night! Just forgot to reply to your U2U...
TOMAS - ah ok, so you'd recommend a better altenator before changing the std battery?

Well in most cases try and upgrade the standard battery too, get a diesel battery. My Exide one has 650CCA's and helped greatly powering the headunit, fogs ect. Was only £27.99, defo worth it.
Upgrading the alternator is indeed the first thing. It supplies much more power than a battery, much quicker.

Yes cap is always last. Without the alternator their would be NO power in the first place! Bigger batteries always seem to show as a good result as they have a higher capacity and dont flatten as quick but often wont last that long, well not as long as if they had a GOOD altenator charging them

Ah righty, okey doke peeps, thanks for the help.
Time to look into getting a better alternator then.
You think one from a 1.8 or the 1.7d would be a suitable choice?

Your gonna want one with around a 70a output or higher.
Dave, if you dont get a better alternator ect the second battery will never get a decent charge anyway.

Righty, went into Vauxhall tonight and Bosch do a 120a altenator for the 1.4SRi - however...
Because they're still fairly new, they don't do exchange units yet so a brand new one will be £321

I've got a 1.2 as well, just trying to fudge a bigger one on from a higher model
AFAIK one from one of the higher end diesels should be ideal, just need to know if it'll fit or not...

If you have the 1.2 16V XE lump the Vecta V6 alts will fit - 100/120A but you will need to remove the air-duct pipe from the new alt. Also it MAY give you poor engine efficiency and ive heard of cases where with a big enough bass note and a massive alt they can stall the engine!!

yea, but surely you would have an uprated battery and even have a split charging system going if your taking that amount of power?
The only problem i can see having a bigger alt is that you will loose power from the engine
Btw, anyone know what alt is on a 1.2 corsa B as standard? i heard it was 60A? And does anyone know the max you could fit to a B?
