I just printed out around 130 pages of notes for uni and the cartridge went from almost full (about 5 pages from new) to pretty fucking empty!!! 
whats going on there!
this is going to be an expensive task at this rate

What printer? I have a HP 3420 and the carts are only 10 ml so yeah about 100 pages per cart

Have a look and see if you can get larger carts. Try eBay, they are norm good prices

if they are the new ones you got with the printer they are usually low amount ones, you can buy higher amount cartridges dependin on model/make of course

make sure your printer settings are not set for photo's as this uses loads of ink.
