im currently trying to get my sisters pc to work
erm no its not having anyof it
4 instatons of windows 1 f-disk and 3 formats later
it still locks on setup, startup anything

I had one of these bastard machines the other day.
Replaced RAM, still errors.
Replaced HDD, still errors.
Replaced mobo and processor, shazzam. Worked a firkin beauty.

btw was doing exactly the same as yours.
Some tries it would crash before it even started copying setup files. Others it would crash at around the 30% mark. Or if i was lucky windows would install but not boot.

i had this prob and it was in the bios, windows didnt like some of the settings...dunno mutch about it, my mate did all the hard work!

try taking sticks of memory out (if it has more than 1) see if that does anything. Also check in the bios settings what processor is set up? this is what was messing mine up, it didnt have the right speed processor set up

can u get in2 dos? if so try:
At the command prompt, type cd \, and then press ENTER.
Type cd windows, and then press ENTER.
Type cd system, and then press ENTER.
Type dir vnetbios.vxd /ah, and then press ENTER.
If the file is reported as found, verify that there is a correct registry entry for it. If you receive the "file not found" error message, click Extract File in the System Configuration Utility tool (Msconfig.exe), and then extract the file to the Windows\System folder
