500 tracks is far too small, not even worth it! you would need to buy another when you've filled the first one up in 6 months!

I suppose it depends how much you listen to your music really. To me the point of my iPod is to supercede my CD collection. All my CDs, downloads etc are on the iPod so I don't ever need to take CDs anywhere. The iPod can be plugged into any stereo, car stereo, headphones etc so you have your whole collection with you at all times.
