was something about this on a while ago.

reckon they're gona build a permanantly manned space station on the moon, then once they build a ship/rocket capable of getting to mars, they'll take it there via the moon station at a total project cost of a trillion dollars. (that a thousand billion?)

this is apparantly comparable to the total third world debt.
think i remembered that right, wont happen till about 2012, but it's a waste of money by the sounds of it.

If it's American, then yes, a trillion is $1,000,000,000,000. If you're using proper numbers (unlike the Americans), then a trillion would be $1,000,000,000,000,000,000. From memory, anyway!

For once I don't hate American and I think this is a brillant idea.

We've got to get the ball rolling for space exploration else the human race will not survive or progress.

Thumbs up to America.

I actually think we should sort out our own planet's problems before trying to spread elsewhere...

Spot on OJC

It's like the New passport/airport security stuff. There being slated to fuk but at least they have the balls to just say to everyone 'Do it or fuk off' unlike this pathetic country we live in.

Once the yanks have sorted out any gliches the whole world will be using it and no-one will have a passport to mess about with..

the price quoted today on BBC NEWS 24 was "400 Billion dollars" to put a man on mars, and (i think) it cost 800 Million dollars to send the probe to mars

the reason there is all the hype, is that we have learned a lot more from un-manned missions than manned missions, and plus, what will we gain from sending a man to mars, over sending the probe

i say go for it, "we do these things not because they are easy, but because they are difficult"

bush couldn't care less anyway, he wont be the president that has to pay for it all, so he can promise what he wants

First of all its actually advancing our race, when we're all dead people might be in space because of stuff like this...

beats the usual - Born Work Die, Born work Die, Born Work Die... routine which leaves absolutely nothing behind.

Plus this is america - they'd only go spend that 12 bil on junk food or nuclear weapons...
