nothing is dried out kerry,
hay is just a form of field of grass, that is cut around june time and baled into small bales or big bales.
And used for horse feed.

LOL,
a silo is where u store wheat etc,
silage - is where the hay is usually chopped up into small bits and made into a form of food for the horses.

The reason the horses, cows etc eat the hay is that it has nutrients.
Its stored for several years before a farmer uses a full stock, so does become drier yes
