Mine passed last years mot with no cat but he told me to put it back on cos they were bringin out some regulation that if ur car came with it then it has to be there. I had a feelin he was talkin tripe but i was gonna put it back on anyway cos my car was guzzling petrol like an alcaholic housewife.
Failed on handbrake this year. Didnt even ralise cos i rarely park on a hill but the fat cnut drove us up a massive slope, slammed the handbrake on and we gently rolled down the ramp. lol, had to laugh.
Also failed cos i took my arches off cos i was bitchering them, i thought it was ok as long as they wernt gonna fly off.

Last MOT, mine failed on 1st attempt with no cat and stainless steel exhaust that went rusty (thanks Powerflow - pics here for anyone who hasn't seen them yet).
I put a cat and standard exhaust on for re-test, failed even worse because the cat from a mate was knackered (he said it may have been, but thought I'd test it as £5 would have been cheaper than the £100 I ended up forking out to the garage to get it through test-attempt #3).
Failed first time on headlight-aim, but they adjusted them for free (I did begin to wonder about fitting Morettes the day before the MOT-test, but with a golf-ball-sized hole in the original headlight's glass, I thought it'd be better to put new headlights in).
Also failed on brake-pads & discs, which I'd been told about during a minor-service earlier that week (although they did say they had another 5k miles on them yet). Replaced them the day after the 1st test...

you can pass emissions tests without a CAT but you still need to have it on if the car was made after Aug 1993. Daimo gets away with it because the engine was made before 1993.
