If you're using an NT-based version of Windows (ie. NT, 2000, or XP), then do the following:
Start -> Run -> cmd [return or OK]
netstat -an
From memory, MSN conversations use port 1863, so check any remote IP addresses that are using that port...

or if you send them a file...say a pic of u...do netstat and you'll have them on there

If they are shady they may be using 'nyms' programmes thats encrypt and reroutes Internet traffic, and prevent the release of compromising information by using multiple digital identities.
As far as I know and the last one I saw doesn't work with the shite that is AOL, but it works on MSN and Yahoo.

The connection doesn't stay open very long, you'd need to use the "netstat" command in the middle of a conversation...

You could always ask them to visit a web site somewhere that you have access to the logs from. If they're on here I can tell you if an address matches with one you think it is.

well they aint online now...was just last night....next time the person who i fink it is is on i will do that netstats thing....then wen the new perosn who i finki s me mate is on i will run the netstats thing again...
am running Windows ME at the mo as xp fookered up other week
still the same....start>run>netstat
