i have that material. gf's dad is an upholsterer and its like suede/alcantara but its harder wearing. cant remember name but i paid 12.99 for 1square metre

Its been flocked - you basically glue a load of small fibres to the surface, used here to reduce glare and reflections off the dash while you're driving. I'm fairly sure that you need special glue and some sort of static charge on the fibres to apply them evenly, so it'd probably be difficult to do yourself.

i thought flocked was pressed materials onto a cotton base??
