need some help guys,
I wipped the sump off today to have a quick check of the rods. I thought the big end on 1 rod had gone
all looked fine from the bottom tho, and i didnt have a 14/15mm driver to take them off, so i gave up for the day.
any suggestions to what next??
Is it common for the rod/piston end to go more so then the rod/crank end??

Big ends tend to more because of the stresss they have on them (the rotating mothin) more than the mains. esp on the sides of the two shell halfs. look for and nasty striations on the shell surface, what was the symptoms on it?

Does it still go alright?
Drop a cap off the rod and check out the shell. Was there any metal in the sump?
Did you check compression?

Remember to use new rod bolts as they are stretch bolts.

nope... this is the old engine, dont worry
there was no obvious metal fragments in the sump..
ok, just checking terminoligy here.....
cap - the end of the rod that is held on by the rod bolts?
shell - where it goes round on crank?
If so, that was my next step but half my tools are bloody missing, no sockets or spanners of the right size
