suzi-sue: how do you kow its running on 3 cylinders?
My car had a big flatspot at 4k and also used to stall from a standstill....
Mine was caused by the air flow mass meter.

Mine used to that and along with other probs what made me stick in a 2.0 valver motor. Never got to the bottom of the problem, used to run on 3 cylinders and misfire when it was cold, making the whole car splutter.

Could be a number of things, Ive had similar if not same problems with my SRi with C14SE, try disconnecting all the electrical connections and pluging them back in again, checking each one for corrosion, this happens with one plug on my engine about every 6 - 12 months, on mine its the plug under the disributorless ignition, try that. Also have a look in the water for signs of oil, if there is oil there then the head gasket will need the replacing and this will be a reason for it running rough, likewise have a look in the oil for signs of water, I have had both of these problems so its kinda tryed and tested, but before you have anything done to the engine get a second opinion just in case. Hope this helps!

Also check all the vacuum hoses around the inlet manifold and sensors on the bulkhead (back of the engine bay), if one has dropped off or has a split in it this will also do it and may bring the engine management light on.
