insurance wise i'd say go for a 1.2 cause the insurance is gonna be high whatever u go for but if u go above a 1.2, at least for 1st year the insurance premium would ruin u. Plus if you've only just passed your test no matter how good u think you are at driving if u bought an GSi, SRi or a Sport u'd prob crash it cause u need a bit of experience 1st, that just my opinion but i honestly think when a look back at how i drove when i 1st passed my test i'd have crashed mine if it had been my first car at 17. its not that i drove stupidly its just u not got the experience when u 1st pass

agreed...go for summat like a 1.2 8 valve..1.2 16valve...or 1.4 8valve.....insurance wise wnt be much difference between the 3

as for which model to go for...i says go for special editions....like the trips....merits etc.....the special models have extra goodies like elec windows...elec mirrors...

i'd say a 1.2 16V sxi, the look identical to sports (once they are debadged) and have the same interior. and it wont be too slow compared to what your mates are driving.
the oldest sxi you'll get will be a 98S which u can pick up for about 3 grand.
i was 17 when i got my X reg 1.2 16V sxi and insurance was only 780 fully comp through my mums name, a year on from when i first insured it its dropped by 200 pound.

Its a hard question to answer if we dont know what you can afford.

Here is what i was paying/payed.

First year - corsa C 1.0 comfort - Insurance = £1435

Then i crashed that car, so bought a :

corsa C 1.2 16v - second year - Insurance went upto £1740 with mods insured.

All under fully comp

Expensive insurance ride for me.

Mate do 'Pass Plus' and get insured with Norwich Union. When I had my Saxo VTR, my premium was over £2000 but when I pased pass plus they knocked off over a grand.

As for a corsa, I'd go for a 1.2 8v or 1.4 8v.

get the best you can afford,

my first car was an astra sx 1.6 , then a 2.0 mazda, now a 2.0 corsa,
I have only just got my own insurance policy tho as i have been a named driver for 5 years.

if you can afford it dont bother with a small engine as it will only piss you off!!!

btw i have a fiesta 1.1 as a runaround! (gets loads more use than the corsa)

i would say 1.2 8v cos u gonna struggle to pick up a decent 1.2 16v for 2k. I had 8v for my first 2 years to get insurance down, it wasnt a bad car but ye it wasnt fast at all. Now swapped to 1.2 16v and fuck all between it and a 1.4 16v. Just dont get a 1.0 12v. Gotta be the worst Corsa ive ever driven! lol its best to get experience in a smaller engined car first rather than just jump straight into a GSi etc.
Why do u think they have a limit on the size of motorbike engines u can ride for the first year or 2?!

too right, i drove my mates 3 cylinder hairdryer (1.0 12v) and i couldnt beleive how little power there was! a 900cc fiesta would whip its ass!

there is a big difference between a 1.2 16v and a 1.4 16v, also a big difference in insurance

what i cant get is that the 1.0 12v has more bhp than a 1.2 8v

but you all seem to say the 8v is quicker

i know the 1.2 16v is much better as my mate beats a 306 xsi up to 90 in his
