i know you can cut it, but don't know about drilling. would've thought it'd crack the glass.

Id have thought you'd put selotapeover the area and mark the 'target', then use a small pilot hole - then work up through the drill bits until you reach the right size.

Only a guess though.

What glass? in your house, car, where?

Car glass is made to shatter upon impact, and I reckon even with a sharp drill you'd be up against it!

no it will shatter. its safety glass.
if you wanna do something like put a fuell filler cap in teh window then you need to use a perspex window like rich_s did when he did that too his corsa.

you can get special drills purpose made for machining glass, i have a feeling they're diamond tipped tools.

either way, it is possible.

u cant drill safety glass.the safety glass (toughened) is put throught a machine at 180 degrees then instantly put in to a machine at -180 degrees and thats how they make the safety glass.if u drill ur car window it will smash in to cubes

Where we work, we have CNC machines to cut lenses for glasses, and drill holes. The glass is toughened and you just use normal high speed steel drill bits.

As far as i know, if you make any imperfection (ie. start drilling) in toughened glass the WHOLE lot will shatter.

Toughened glass is formed by cooling the outside "skin" faster than the inside of the glass hence building in initial stresses in the material. If any inperfection is formed theese internal stresses become inbalanced and the glass will shatter! (i'm just finished a 4 year degree in engineering )
