Hi....

Looking for a bit of advice.... Im looking to order my cams next week and im a bit unsure as to what spec to go for.

The engine will be a 2.1 16v on throttle bodies. The car will be used for track and sprint use. So, im thinking over 300degrees but im unsure of lift etc?

Also.... im only planning the use std valves for now, but new solid lifters, uprated springs/caps n platforms.... Will the std valves be ok?

Any help or thoughts welcome

It all depends on where you want your powerband, which depends on rev limit and gear ratios. Best bet is to find people who've got a similar spec engine and ask them what's worked for them. Playing around with different cam profiles can get expensive...

been advised to stick to hyd followers for now as im not wanting to uprate valves etc etc as i can just see this bucket costing mega bucks..

from SBD after a phone call

Hi Adam,

The total price for your order is £826.91 including carriage & VAT.

This includes the following parts:
CM16V2-H278EX (if you are running a distributor, you will need the longer cam shaft. Otherwise unless you have modified the cylinder head, there is no benefit to using the shorter cam shaft)
CM16V2-H284IN
VLC-6K-S (this is a steel valve cap set which has replaced the VLC-6K)
VLS-06K
VLV-SS1
CMVP-1 (from your information these should be the correct pulleys, however if you wish to verify the type, the tooth patterns are shown on the web site in the parts section)
VLV-RT3 (these are the spring seats)

If you wish to order the items, once payment have been received the cam shafts can be ordered. These should take approx 1 week to arrive here.

Kim

I will go to 300'ish degree once i have played around with this spec... which should be good for around 220bhp

After that id go for new valves and guides, steel rods and a fully balanced bottom end.... giving me the rev range to fully use the lumpier cams

need to get a lsd soon though, should have done it when i had the gearbox out but oh well shit happens.

285 piper ultimat road/race cams
piper vernier pulleys(look good)
sbd/jenvey throttle bodies
mbe management syatem
con rod bolts

212bhp @ 7000rpm
revs to 7500 though, thats after a redline was mapped in,used to rev past 8000 rpm.though that might be a bit of a killer on the engine.
