Do local garages carry out HPI checks on vehicles? my friend told me that he had a HPI service carried out in a local garage near me. Also how much shud i expect to pay for a HPI check and how long do they take? As u r aware i am looking to buy a 2nd hand motor so i need to do a HPI check soon

just ring up on your mobile while your looking at the motor you have in mind..... the motor needs to be there as they verify the engine number etc with out the seller showing you the V5 can also tell you if it was a write off etc.

they are well worth it, when i went to buy my first corsa, i got a HPI on a private sellers drive, they told me it was a cat-D write off , so i walked away

u dont need to go to a garage, the car doesn't get examined, a search is made to see if the car has ever been in an accident etc

Yeah i know but apparently the garages how the facility to check the HPI on vehicles. I was just wondering cos i might give me local garage a phone call and slip him £10 for entering the registration on the computer!

Garages will get a trade discount and im sure if you show genuine interest in a car will provide a HPI report.

When i asked me friend where he got his HPI check from he said from a local garage. Once he got the ok from this garage he went up to oxford and bought the car. I am thinking of doing the same thing but i gotta travel to guildford

Anyone can get a report done, cost can vary from about 30 quid to the public down to flat fee for finance companies etc. who do hundreds per day, works out very cheap.
