You'll need to change the steering rack. I hope you enjoy that job. I spent hours and hours trying to get it out! Eventually it comes free

if i'm planing a 1.6 converison and i take the steering rack and pump along with the engine will it work im my 1.2?
i presume the hardest part here is actually reaching the steering rack with the engine in the way?
so if i changed that with the engine out then it would be a problem??
or is there more to it than that??

Without an engine, yes changing the steering rack would be a peice of piss
When I did it, i had a 1.4 8v, which left a little bit of space cos of the small cylinder head. But you still have to get it by the gear linkage - which has to be disconnected... so yeah, do it without the engine in while you can!!

One more, thing, you'll have to set the tracking yourself
I used a bit of ally to straighten the wheels, and took it for a drive - the steering wheel spun 360 and all over the place - i had to stop and get the 12mm spanner and adjustable out and fix it road side

that wont be a problem... when i got my coilovers i had to readjust the tracking about 15 times cos i kept fecking around with the camber.
even when i brang it down the garage and the put it on the 4 wheel alingment machine the tracking and camber were perfect
i'm kinda a tracking expert
the only bastid is trying to get yer head in to ya can actually see the track rod and get yer vise grips on it
