My dad has been having a few problems with his pc so i came to have a look. The CPU was running at 88 degrees C, so theres obviously a problem! Could poor ventilation cause this? Theres no room between the CPU can guard and the PSU, so I think maybe a bigger case and an exhaust fan would help. Ive got the processor running at about 1/3 speed so the temperatures are okay now, but are there any programs that would let me monitor it without having to go into the BIOS? Any help much appreciated!

2800+ under full load is not supposed to go anywhere near 80c. They can handle it, just not supposed to go this high.

A 2500+ new machine runs at about 28c idle and about 49-50c full load.

Just did all this when i did my Comp TIA stuff.

mine runs at 50C load. this i regard to be pretty hot for a 2500 but its stable so i dont mind.

Running at 2.4ghz as well so all is good.

You may need a better CPU fan, it might be dusty, the heatsink might not be seated on the CPU properly. loads of things it could be mate.

Didnt have time to piss about sorting it out cos he works from home and cant do any work at all without a PC - ended up buying a 3.2ghz, 512MB, 80GB box off ebay for £320, and when ive got time im gonna test the old hardware, see what works and split it up.

My 2600+ runs at 45C under heavy load, with the motherboard-temp at 30-35C, even with the graphics-card quite majorly overclocked...

Then again, I do have 8 fans inside the case, and it sounds like it's trying to take off!

MBM5 overreads quite a bit on my computer, so I use a program called CPU Cool that monitors the temp a bit more accurately.
