You need not worry about nuclear war now, there is a far more dangerous weapon just round the corner...
CERN are currently creating anitmatter in Switzerland, and have created like a very very tiny amount like a few atoms worth, but enough to power New York city for 1 day! Look at this...

This is what the Germans had devloped at the end of WW2, but this is not yet common knowledge.
We were within millimetres of loosing the war in the last few moments.

Matter composed of fundamental particles (anti-particles) which have the same mass and spin as the matter that makes up ordinary matter, but opposite values of other properties such as baryon number and strangeness. The interaction of a particle with its anti-particle results in their mutual annihilation, with the release of energy. Although anti-particles and anti-atoms (anti-hydrogen) can be made experimentally, there is no evidence for the existence of large amounts of antimatter in nature.

excellent book, currently reading it actually
And BTW, if you look at CERN's website, they have actually created antimatter in small quantities, and only a matter of time until creating potentionally more. Its the power of the future. CERN whiz the photons around their particle accelerator, which is the lagest man-made structure in the world, and is around 19 miles long, in a big circle. Photons travel round it at about 12,000 times a second before colliding and creating antimatter.
They also created the internet
