Is this possible?
I'll be on holiday for 3 weeks and would still like to make use of the bandwidth i'm paying for at home.
So for this reason i'd need to remotely use my pc at home via my grans pc while i'm on holiday.
Is this possible? preferably without triggering the antivirus and firewall software etc.
How would one set this up?

Use VNC using a Internet Explorer
See

will need to setup port forwarding if using a router.

If you have XP Pro installed on your computer, you can use Remote Desktop.

get a "copy" of RemotelyAnywhere (think thats the one) and it offers a webpage control system, so you wont have to install anything on your grans machine

vnc is wank though, i couldnt even get it to work properly - had to manually forward this port, that port, install this extra piece of crud here and there, i gave up in the end. Installed remotelyanywhere and it did all the work for me and no pissing about - plus it was the same price as vnc

install that mate, trust me its easy as pie - you may still need to forward ports, but my router sorted that all out for me

 cheap and cheerful , its funny you should say that VNC works fine for me but a few guys at work have issues with it , i think its just down to port forwarding etc..

Remote Desktop works fine, and thru a web-browser if you have it setup like so.

well i have my pc on a static IP to the router and set as DMZ, so i have direct connection through to the cable modem  eitherway, i spent about 5hrs pissing about with vnc and gave up. Installed remotelyanywhere and it worked out of the box Then again VNC is free and open source, so it probably explains alot of it

VNC works fine from work to home for me......had to port-forward two ports, but that's nothing major to set up.

Vnc works fine here also. Messed about with remote desktop but it didn't give me enough control over startup and shutdown.

lol a port is a set parameter created from client based systems to allow access to pretty much everything web related like the internet, remote tasking, e-mail etc etc etc

also, i would seriously think twice about using remote assistance/desktop. Very very security buggy. Turn it off at services.msc and leave well alone.

but when i try to connect via the browser it asks for a user name and password.
what do i use for this?
if i need to use my xp account details, i don't have any.

The fastest remote admin software is Microsofts TerminalServices, we also use dameware here which utilises NT Security to make it pretty secure
