I have a reasonably small Hardrive (so the missus says) and have just purchased a bigger one, i would like to transferr over everything to the larger one and use the smaller one just for mp3's/mpeg's etc how can i do this?

connect it to the ide cable (same as hdd cable ). Set the current hdd as slave, and the new hdd as master .

then i turn the computer on and nothing will happen. i need to copy over all the OS including the system files including the one currently in use

no keep your current drive with the OS installed on Master - puit the new drive in the Slave slot and plug the slave leads in and then just run it as a slave drive under My Computer.

i know what your sayin nis, but this drive is struggling to survive as it is, tis a shitty 2 gig drive and im running XP leaving me bout 94 meg. want to transfer all the data over to new drive tis big and fast

I'd advise against just copying your OS across from another drive......install XP on the new drive, THEN set the 2Gb drive up as a slave-drive and copy all your data across (not including Windows). That way, you don't put the stress of running XP on the old drive, it's just there as a secondary (ie. slave) drive.

take out small drive..

put in big drive as master..

install xp on it then connect small drive as slave..

take mp3's off then format in windows.

yup this is the way forward, you'll have a fresh copy as well
As for programs, reinstall them mate...otherwise back up the setup files from your current harddrive if there abit hot
