Thats shit...

What engine you got?
I got a brand new set of rollers and tensioners in the garage. for X14XE and X16XE plus timing belt.
Brakes are pretty easy to do yourself, and you could get them way cheaper than vaux.

X14XE, they've already started doing it, cheers anyway Ryan.
I'll do the brakes myself, going to MMV or eddie walkers to get discs and pads after work.

Ian does a good deal on uprated brakes.
I got a set of 2ltr 16v discs and calipers for about 200 fitted.
EBC drilled and groved discs and greenstuff pads.
i got most parts for those engines.

vaux are taking you for a proper and classic ride here
New water pump is £25 and a piece of piss to do, pads and discs cost me about £35, two rear wheel cylinders are £12 for the pair, can get the timing belt kits for £70, new brake fluid is a fiver, foglight is £3, and parts for a full service are £60.
Thats nearly £200 just in parts. Vaux labour charge : £400 for you.

I would call them and ask then to stop any work done on it and take it to an independent garage to get a 2nd opinion...
How old is your car by the way?

You can buy a runabout car for £500
I haven't spent a penny on repairs for the PAXO and only about £50 on the 106 in the year i had her including the MOT
Dunno if you got the car from a garage or not but keep giving them abuse and you'll get the work done for free. Done this with Pug and Shitron and always does the trick.

You get your car serviced by Vauxhall? Are you insane?
a) I wouldn't trust them to change a LIGHT BULB on my car let alone do any engine work, and b) they have the most extortionate labour rates ever!
Just do what I do, get the parts at Trade Club prices and get a local (reliable) garage to do the work (I'd do it myself but I haven't got the time/space/inclination to do it!).

By the way - I also have an X14XE engine (but an Astra not a Corsa), the parts cost me £87.25 - timing belt/tensioner/pulleys from Vauxhall, and fan belt from local motor factors as Vauxhall didn't have it in stock, and £66.98 labour from a local garage, total cost = £154.23 including VAT.
Vauxhall parts I got just over £30 discount on as these parts are Trade Club prices.

OK I am assuming you are on about a mk2 2.0 Astra GTE?
If so, my copy of the Trade Club book says retail price for a set of pads for a 2.0 mk2 Astra are £18.50, or £9.70 for Trade Club members.
Front brake disc and pad set for the above is £59.50 retail, £42.00 for Trade Club members.
Prices are exc. VAT by the way.

No you never Richie, dont worry. £25 for a water pump, 2nd hand was it? £100 for a water pump was supplied fitted and a years warrenty inc.
Got a copy of the invoice, wouldnt say that i got shafted for parts, prices for that were quite reasonable. Labour was £240 for 1 days work, thats where i got shafted.
I got EBC disks and greenstuff pads last night, fitting them on saturday.
