my dad and i tried getting the crank nut off today to change the oil pump seal on my 2.0.
all i can say is that im distraught by the evidence below
as you can see the nut is nearly rounded off
we got a 16mil socket on it and britains largest pipe on the end of the socket and pulled, also having wedged a screwdriver in the flywheel so the crank didnt spin.
any ideas would be very helpful!

wot, grind it into a hexagon?
that is one of the options.
another is to heat it
and another is to weld a bar onto the end of it so sockets/spanners dont slip

wd40 let soak in for a hour keep re-applying every 10 mins
then hammer a socket onto it
then heat it up with a blow torch "lots"
crack it off

Grind the head off the bolt.
Once the head is off there is no torque on it and you can undo the threaded part with your fingers.

grind a slit in the centre of the bolt. put a bit of steel or something in the slit with a pipe on the piece of steel and it will open.

where does the head of the bolt start tho?
is it the blue line or the red one

Cant remember and cant see from the pic.
Grinding is the only way you'll get it off, no bodge will work if you've mashed it like that with a proper socket. They have a silly torque on them.

that bolt is done upto some stupid torque setting. u really need the proper bar to get that off.

think yourself lucky that it doesnt come off, the new mk5 golf GTI ones fall out at random intervals

il think ul find that they were originaly lock tighted from the factory i find that 1" drive impact gum dose it nicely

today we are trying welding a right angled bar to it! like an L shape. see if that works
